The new year began in a great way for Manchester City and all its supporters as they defeated Liverpool in a close encounter. Everyone expected a close encounter when these two giants face one another and what followed in the 90 minutes of the game was certainly great to watch for all football supporters. After Thursday’s game, Manchester City moved to the second position with 50 points in their kitty.

The game between Liverpool and Manchester City had everything, from great goals to brilliant defence and a great goal line clearance. The goal line clearance was certainly one of the moment of the game as Manchester City defender John Stones managed to save a goal by clearing the ball off the line to save what would have been the first goal of the match. It was a mighty close decision as managed to save the ball just half an inch from reaching into the goal. In reply, Manchester City took the lead in the game courtesy Sergio Aguero’s brilliant goal in the 40th minute. Liverpool then came back in the game through Roberto Firmino’s header which brought the game 1-1. With the game set absolutely equal, Sane showed his class as he scored the second goal of the game for Manchester City just 20 minutes to go off the game, which led Manchester City to win the close encounter against the table toppers.

The game had everything that one could have wished for, from fantastic goals to great defence and further a controversial decision. Kompany’s tackle on Salah certainly raised some eye-brows as he was only awarded a yellow card. But overall it was a game which had everything one could wish for. Though the result came in the favour of Manchester City, Liverpool should not worry much about the game as they are still placed in the top of the table very comfortably but Manchester City moved up the ranking to the second position. Manchester City will face Wolves in January 14th while Liverpool will have a game in Brighton on January 12th.
