The Reds traded their struggling Right-Hander Homer, Jeter Downs and Josiah Gray to LA in exchange for three former All-Stars Left-Handed Alex Wood and outfielders YasielPuig and Matt Kemp, along with Kyle Farmer. For the Reds, it could be a chance to move beyond into a better future.
According to the Reds President, Dick Williams, “It’s a very complex deal that took a lot of work”(about the transfer). This trade helped the Reds to resolve their biggest problem i.e. what to do with out of form Bailey. After signing a 6 year contract for $105 million, Bailey has made only 8 starts over the next two seasons. PuigandKemp, who are both free agents after this season, will be re-united with the Reds.
Puig is expected to bring a sense of excitement to the club. Puig hit .267 last season with 23 homers and 63 RBIs. He could be Billy Hamilton’s replacement in the centre field. The Ward of the team is happy with the composition of the new team and he expects the team to do well in the upcoming season.
Kemp is a 3 time National League All-Star, including last season, a 2 time Rawlings Gold Glove Award- winning Mid Fielder. Last season in 146 appearances Kemp hit .290 with 25 doubles, 21 HR and 85 RBI.
Farmer was selected by the Dodgers in their 8th round of the June 2015. Over the last 2 seasons, he made 59 appearances for LA, including 26 games at 3B, 4 games at c and 2 games at 1b and was faring averagely. The transfers made by both the teams has made The Reds happy as they let go of the under-performing player and got hold of 3 key players.
