What looked like an easy game on paper for the star studded Real Madrid was not actually to be as Villarreal managed to pull off a draw against the Mighty Madrid. The year began on a rough note for Real Madrid and their fans as they could only manage a draw against Villarreal. As the game began Santi Cazorla of Villarreal took only 4 minutes to score the opening goal of the game, which kept Villarreal in the lead 1-0 against Real Madrid. Though Villarreal were in the lead, Madrid came back in the game in just the 7th minute of the game courtesy of Karim Benzema and further took the game ahead of their opponent by scoring once again in the 20th minute of the game which was scored by Varane. At this point, Real Madrid thought that they were well ahead of the game and looked to win the game pretty comfortably. Most football fans will agree that it was a game in the favour of the Madrid. But what concerned Madrid was the continuous injury of their star Welsh forward Gareth Bale. Just after half time, Real Madrid had to substitute Bale who was continuously battling his injury for the past few months. In the 82nd minute of the game, Villarreal striker Santi Cazorla came back strongly to score his second goal of the match to ensure a draw against the elite team. Real Madrid coach Santi Solari said that they could not manage the win as they missed the services of their star forward Gareth Bale. According to him, what they lacked was the counter attacking style of football and Gareth Bale is an expert of that tactic. Real Madrid were certainly not happy with the final result of the game as they could not manage a win as they started 2019 with a draw and got a point out of the game. In the table, Real Madrid are now placed in the fourth position, seven points behind the table toppers Barcelona. Real Madrid will look to perform better from their next game onwards as they would want to catch up with the table toppers.
